https://interstellar-space-genesis.fandom.com/wiki/Interstellar_Space_Genesis_Wiki Well, it's finally done--at least in the sense that every element of my original outline has some content, some of it even useful; the tool tip system covers many basic contents as well as all weapons, weapon mods, ship special systems, buildings, armor, and shields, all of which is generated and updates with page content for concepts or the various Lua data tables for techs, etc. and is also used to generate tables with a simple {{#invoke:Builder|buildTable|type}} call. It still needs heavy proof reading; I may add some more concept tool tips; I've got over half the tech tree in the data file already so I might as well add the rest; I may still play around with things like css styles and organization; and I might add some more content. The last big pages, https://interstellar-space-genesis.fandom.com/wiki/Tactical_Combat and https://interstellar-space-genesis.fandom.com/wiki/Ship_Design contain my best understandings and experimental measuring of values--they could use review for accuracy. After some proof-reading tonight or tomorrow, I'll probably put it down for a week or so--I've been a bit obsessed and have a major work project due Thursday I haven't started on, and it will be nice to relax and actually play the game. Remember Wikis are suppose to be a community project, and my ego isn't tied up with any of the content, so anyone feel free to not only add new content but edit, reorganize, whatever the content that is there. I just realized I didn't provide a way to get to the actual data modules containing the definitions of technologies, tool tips, etc. I've added that to the Helping Out category, it's at https://interstellar-space-genesis.fandom.com/wiki/Data_Modules
For some reason Google absolutely will not index https://interstellar-space-genesis.fandom.com/wiki/Weapons or https://interstellar-space-genesis.fandom.com/wiki/Buildings, 2 of the more useful reference pages. Even typing the base url and searching for weapons or buildings only shows the main menu page with the links to them instead of the pages themselves. I'm wondering if my use of templates to provide tooltips and links for every key word every time it appears is making google think the pages are just lists of links.
And suddenly they not only show up, they're ranked 3rd, where before even using the wiki url itself as a search term it couldn't find--it clearly hadn't indexed it. It seems to not be crawling the all the links from the main page menu for some reason, no idea why.
Yeah, sometimes Google robots take some time to crawl through all the links, so it seems with time everything is being index correctly. When I search for "Interstellar Space Genesis wiki" the wiki now shows 1st, so good job!
I've basically completed pass 1 over the Wiki--back-filled all the stub articles with actual content instead of "Culture points are used to increase Culture levels and gain Culture perks", reorganized the main page, put everything into Wiki categories, added more tables for https://interstellar-space-genesis.fandom.com/wiki/Colonizable_Planets, https://interstellar-space-genesis.fandom.com/wiki/Infrastructure, etc. The Empire section has to come first logically, but unfortunately is the weakest section--Colonies and Ships are the strongest. I should also probably review the long, rambling opinion section on the Culture page when I've had a a beer or 3 less. The parts on Ship Attack, etc., need some work, but I'm waiting for 1.05 since that will make it much easier to explain on the pages with what Adam is adding. It's been hit by people from at least 10 countries (it only shows the top 10), so the game is getting some international penetration. Someone keeps searching it for "race", "species", etc.--I don't know what they expect to find there that's not already right in front of them when they click New Game. Maybe a strengths and weaknesses and play-style type thing, rather than just the stats? I can't really provide that, I've been spending more time on the Wiki than the game, and I have yet to play a starting race, only custom ones.
Is there a way to integrate this into the game somehow? I would recommend it as other 4x games have done exactly that.
Do you mean they've integrated a wiki into the game, or are you just talking about a help system? If you mean the former, I've never seen that, though it would be interesting. If you mean the later, the tool tips already provide a more extensive help system than I've seen elsewhere--they really put a lot of work into them. Large parts of the wiki are really just pulling the information from those tool tips together so you can see them side-by-side.
I finally just exported all the unity assets (I hope Adam doesn't mind) so I can create more detailed and graphically rich pages.
