This was very exciting news indeed. A new 4x space tbs arriving from the people behind the most insightful and spot on reviews regarding my favorite genre! Though saddened to have a fantastic blog shut down eventually, I'm so much looking forward to see this project realized. What I'm hoping most for personally besides the points that I now you are thinking about already; is that you manage to put in some of the magic in exploration and in meeting other races as you had in for example Star Control 2.
