Ships and monsters destroyed in battle sometime leave behind tech in the wreckage, this could apply to ships captured in battle, but with a slightly increased chance of finding new tech, or does it already?

If not could it be possible to include some form of reverse engineering at planets with suitable facilitys using the fleet screen or some other option, ie star base etc plus reserch facilitys, only one tech can be found per ship (% chance) and the ship is destroyed in the process with no scrap value.
Tech can be anything that the ship has fitted including specials.

    What do you think...

When I first started playing ISG, I too was disappointed that ships couldn't be scrapped for tech. However, now that I've learned how easy it is to capture ships, I think that would make things too easy for the player. Instead of one chance per battle, it would be one chance per ship and it's not uncommon to capture multiple ships.

This becomes even more unbalanced if the ships found in ruins could be scrapped for tech - many of those ships are inferior designs overall which I'd happily scrap to get a more advanced weapon, shield, armor or special.

The current situation, where stealing tech with spies requires some real effort, seems preferable to me.

I think you really like this game, that's what. But to your question, no.

ISG is quite an intricate title, especially for an indie team, it's also a game, not a real life simulation. That means my metallic friend that certain realities are abstracted. Sometimes you pick up tech from a battle, at other times you don't. You can capture enemy ships and use them as is, you can even refit them, heck most of the time it isn't hard to copy their actual design and produce them...though I fail to see why you would.

So in the interest's of game play and fun, I have to conclude that Praxis has struck a good balance here, there is no need for feature creep or complexity for complexity's sake.

    P.S.
Shame there's no multiplayer, you would be fun to play against.

Having thought about it somewhat I think your right, it would be kind of pointless considering the number of ways there already is to obtain tek... though I dont think it would impact the game more then is currently the case, largely because you can steal tek from any faction providing you've got a reasonable thief...

As too ships from ancient ruins, well I've found them to be usefull even game changing, though impossible to create without high miniturisation at least for the better ones, an example of that would be "The Dark Lance" a cruiser which if crewed by a reasonable leader will take out even multiple BSs, off course its a risk as its not high on hit points... but still it stopped the Kaek invasion at an early part of my last game practically single handed, when my main fleet, what there was of it, was commited a long way off elsewhere allowing time to regroup counter attack and force the Kaek to a peace treaty.
There was little possibility of capturing ships at that stage either.

    Anyway thanks for your replys...;)

A pleasure to exchange ideas with a fellow enthusiast, thanks to you as well for providing such an in depth look at how you perceive this "universe".

On those ships found in ancient ruins, I've played some games with extremely low research rates (10-15%), and man I can't tell you how this gives them new life. Even ships like the "Stellar Flare" become a godsend when you're running around with lasers and basic nukes...without shields. These ships are unique, mostly well armed, but perhaps a bit fragile, some are even vulnerable to specific weapons and require escorts to be properly used.

I still haven't gotten the time to play the latest version, but maybe over the holidays I'll give it a spin.

Currently playing on 25% research found a destroyer and a frigate, both proved usefull...
