So heres my final Fed fleet designs, unfortunatly no where near enough slots for all the designs Ive created from the game, likely could do with another 10 slots which I think would be enough to cover it.
Normally in the course of a game I'll start with basic ships 5 designs, followed by command versions Frigate to balleship 4 designs (eg CCR is a command cruiser) these will be upgraded and ships will be refitted as appropriate during the game which is why they all have MK number (eg Vostol IX has gone through 9 versions).
Command ships including the Titan have Holodeck and Transporter as standard which means less weapons particularly on smaller ships so are reserved for commanders..
Add to this specials Ion, Caous chain etc version of BSs fleet carriers, special assault ships for capturing enemy vessels and stations? or just non standard fleet weaponsweapons and systems eg dark Lance etc (but better) and you soon end up wanting more slots...
Is it poosible to increase this in some way?

We actually had numerous (spirited) conversations about this in Pre-Alpha days, back when the total number of slots available was only 5.

With so many play styles out there, it's hard to determine the correct number of slots. Most of the time I use 5 only, rarely 6 if I have a special need such as PD escorts.

But in the meantime there is something you can do, though it's a bit tedious.

Create a design, set a serial run in some colony of said design. Go back and over-right the design with a new one, set a new serial run elsewhere. While only a single design is technically available, the production of your colonies won't be affected. That means the first colony will still be producing the "overwritten" design while the second is producing the "current" design.

I know, it's not elegant and it means that you have to plan things out a bit, however if you need a fix straight away, and the immersion factor is greater for you by having dozens of variants in play, this will work.

Yes thats basically what I've been doing, I think it would be a better solution though if there wasn't a set number of ship design slots but everytime the last slot is filled a new one is created (so you start with 3, frigate/destroyer/empty slot), it would allow as many or as few ship designs as the player would like to create and keep for upgrading.
