I think that one of the biggest challenges this game is going to face is to get more mainstream gaming media attention.

That's a challenge almost every game on the market faces these days. Steam is a flooded marketplace that releases tons of new games on a weekly basis, and games that aren't on Steam almost don't exist. If you are on Steam, you definitely want it to be with positive reviews if you want to see any sales.

We are lucky to have sites like eXplorminate which help highlight these types of titles. A more dedicated audience like theirs will wait to make a final judgment, so exposing the game to them when it is still in development isn't a huge risk like it is with the wider less enthusiastic audience on the internet.

You only get one chance to make a first impression, so I think the media strategy has been to lay low until the game is ready for a broader audience. There are also some major graphical improvements coming and that's what you really want an audience to see.
