ISG Dev Diary #5: Leaders

Hi everyone!

In this new dev diary, we propose to discuss Leaders in Project Space Sector.

In our view, Leaders were one of the key ingredients that made Master of Orion 2 great and stand out from other space 4X games. Having officers commanding your ships and system governors managing your colonies gave the task of ruling a space empire much more flavor and character while enhancing the RPG elements of the game.

Of course, Leaders will return in Project Space Sector, and this time their impact in the game will be even more meaningful.

Hi everyone!

After a short break during the holidays we’re back on to releasing more dev diaries for Project Space Sector!

This time we propose to discuss Research.

In case you missed the announcement, Space Sector is developing a turn-based space 4X strategy game, which will be a spiritual successor to Master of Orion 2. You can find all dev diaries and other news regarding the development here.

Motivation and Rationale

We believe that a solid tech system is the backbone of a good 4X game. The number of technologies available in the game, the order at which they are picked and the pace at which they are unlocked are all crucial factors for a fun and fluid 4X gaming experience.

ISG Dev Diary #1: Starmap and Exploration

Hi everyone!

Today we kick off a series of dev diaries for Project Space Sector, which we intend to be releasing in a 2-week or monthly fashion. In case you missed the announcement, Space Sector is developing a turn-based space 4X strategy game, which will be a spiritual successor to Master of Orion 2.

We start with the game’s starmap and exploration mechanics.

Motivation and Rationale

We believe that exploration is probably one of the best parts of a 4X game, and at the heart of what makes these games extremely fun to play, especially at the beginning.

And this is the issue: it’s usually good… “at the beginning”. The exploration experience, the curiosity feeling and the surprises that go along with it, usually end too soon...

Hi everyone!

Today we’re thrilled to announce what we’ve been cooking for you over the past three or so years.

Space Sector is currently developing a turn-based space 4X strategy game, and you’re all invited to participate and help make it happen!

The game is called Project Space Sector, for now, and a forum has already been put up to welcome everyone interested in taking part and helping out make this the best game we can.

We’ve just reached pre-alpha. Most of our vision is already established and partially implemented, so we really need some fresh air now. And that’s what the phase that starts now will be all about...
